Holiday mandala design!

This art will appear with the Sunday Life holiday arts story this weekend. My favorite mandala yet. I have a fat quarter coming from the spoonflower site soon and hope to have it for sale for the holiday season.  I also have it as a greeting card design on my zazzle site.

Art show for Haiti

I have been asked to participate in this show in August. I hope to be selling some of my fabric designs.

Got birds?

It's Memorial Day and I'm at work drawing birds. Can't complain, I'm grateful to have a job. Here is a Carolina chickadee! Five birds drawn, one more to do. This will illustrate an upcoming Saturday story on birdwatching.

This week's Go Triad features my mandala art illustrating our annual summer music feature.

Not surprising to those who know me, the sixties and pop art was a big influence on me. Now its all over the place in this current culture. Groovy baby.

New fabric design

spoonflower.com is the site I have my designs printed on fabric. They have a new fabric I'm going to try out. Its a 100% cotton lawn, combed, that is described as having a delicate, silky texture, appropriate for dresses, blouses, lingerie, scarves and handkerchiefs.  I updated this illustration for the test run. If you like this design I have it available at my Zazzle store on mugs and tennis shoes and soon on fabric at Spoonflower.

Winner

I was a big winner in the N.C. Press Awards this year. I won 2nd place in illustration and third place in the graphics category. The awards were held at the Smith Center in Chapel Hill. Great Night.

Here is my winning illustration. It's a photo collage created in illustrator and photoshop with a painted canvas background I did with acrylic paints. The graphics winner (Dragonflies) is done in illustrator. I also researched and wrote all the text with that entry.

My latest illustration for an Ideas page illustrates a story on how the job and lifestyle climate of Greensboro is like Goldilocks, neither to hot or cold, but just right. I illustrated it with  the three bears which my coworker Tim and I agreed would be more more fun than drawing Goldilocks. Its all about the bears! Actually Greensboro is porridge  in this illustration.
