Support local food
Tina Firesheets wrote a great story today on Community Supported Agriculture. With a CSA you pay upfront for a weekly amount of produce from a local farmer. You get great food and you support the local farm communities.
I did the illustration for it and also a flash presentation which I will link to here.
The art was inspired by the illustration you find on food crates, especially fruit and vegetable crates.

Seeing red
February is National Heart Month and this illustration will go with a story that prints Tuesday on heart health.
A by the numbers look from the American Heart Association on women and heart disease.
Since 1984, the number of Cardiovascular disease deaths for females has exceeded those for males. In 2006 432,709 women died from CVD, representing 52.1 percent of deaths from CVD.
White women die at a 2 percent higher rate than White males.
Black women die at a 3.6 percent higher rate than Black males.
Hispanic or Latino women die at a 4.5 percent higher rate than Hispanic or Latino males.
64 percent of women who died suddenly of coronary heart disease had no previous symptoms.
